VMware becomes part of Broadcom, Advania Finland continues as a partner

VMware became part of Broadcom in a November 2023 acquisition. Advania's VMware/Broadcom partnership continues even after the acquisition, when we were selected as one of the few partners in the Nordics.

VMware-by-BroadcomThe partnership is a recognition of our long-term work as a reseller of VMware solutions, and we are committed to providing our VMware license customers with first-class service in the future.

The arrangement affects VMware licensing

The acquisition has no impact on VMware's software or their functionality. However, Broadcom has informed its partners that there will be significant changes to the licensing of capacity services. The changes will take effect from 1 April 2024.

The most significant change is that the current charge for licenses based on memory usage will change to one based on the number of processor cores of the platform servers. Among Advania's services, the change is particularly aimed at the Private Cloud service. In platform servers, each core of each processor will require one license in the future. The minimum number of licenses per processor is 16. The number of virtual servers or memory usage will no longer affect the license billing after the change.

Advania is negotiating with Broadcom to ensure the most cost-effective solution that best serves business needs for its customers.

VMware's modern device management service to be separated from Broadcom

Advania will continue to offer its customers the VMware Workspace ONE solution. It is a secure service for device management that meets modern information security risks and is part of the Zero Trust model.

On February 26, 2024, the private equity investor KKR bought the EUC (End-User Computing) unit that came with the VMware deal from Broadcom, which also includes the Workspace ONE solution. In the future, the EUC unit will operate as its own company.
